I got a Ninja Showdown 3-pack Snake Eyes as a rather early b-day present. (Not until June 20th, but hey, not complaining). Gotta say, I am loving this figure. For anyone who collects Joes, most people will say Pursuit of Cobra Wave 3 Snake Eyes, or City Strike/Resolute Snake are the best Snake Eyes out there. As someone who owns both of those as well, I do absolutely adore them… but this is a great figure and my new personal favorite.
First off, this guy has ANKLE ROCKERS, something I think is absolutely essential for a ninja. He can hold some pretty spectacular poses, and it’s a shame that this isn’t a standard in all figures in my humble opinion. I know it adds a lot of my Renegades Scarlett, and I’m excited about getting the Renegades 4 Pack Storm Shadow/Red Ninja for the fact that they have rockers too. I also really like that, despite this being a figure from the Retaliation line, he looks more like something out of the comics. Yeah, he has “armor” underneath his webgear and could easily pass for something out of the movies… but not so much so to not let him look great alongside 25th, 30th, or even Renegades Figures.
There is a downside, though, even if it’s a minor one to me. His weapons aren’t painted in any way. This normally isn’t a big problem for me, but when it’s blade weapons it’s a bit of an annoyance to me personally. Especially because General Joes’ early production version (lol stolen factory ‘prototype’) ended up with painted weapons. But that’s okay, I have a lot of swords and Sais and what not for Snake, including a really cool one from one of the 25th Snakes (Pictured) that has the Arashakagi symbol on the blade.
All in all, great figure. He’s my “definitive” Snake Eyes right now, for sure. And if for some reason you /don’t/ want the Storm Shadow and Red Ninja that come in the three pack with him (Though I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t. I’m okay with ending up with a second Snake when I can find the three pack) the single carded Snake is a similar figure. He’s darker in color, and lacking his web gear (And probably some gear, I haven’t seen any Retaliation in my area yet) but same base body. And then there’s this same figure, but again in darker colors (but with all the stuff this one comes with as I understand) in the Amazon 4 pack if you want him, Storm Shadow, Roadblock and Cobra Commander. Anyway you look at it, plenty of ways to get this great body. I just hope the Retaliation screen accurate figure from wave 2 is this articulated… and actually pops up since it looks like the movie figures are going back to Hasbro till next March…
